Responsibilities
The Data Centre Solutions Architect (Design Manager/Senior Design Manager) will be responsible for design and innovation, market research, evaluating, and implementing the newly technical solutions to optimize K2 future data centre’s infrastructure with high efficiency, and performance. This role plays a critical part in ensuring K2 always advanced and prepared to fulfil the quick change and demand of the global data centre requirements, ensure technical excellent, stand operational, sustainability, and scalability goals while aligning with industry best practices.
Design, Innovation and Technical Solutions
Conduct market research to identify new ideas and technologies that can be used to develop a comprehensive K2 data centre design solution, including layout planning, power distribution, cutting-edge high-density cooling systems, critical control / monitoring infrastructure with different construction methods.
Ensure all K2 newly developed design solutions adhere to customer requirements, Uptime Institute’s Tier standards, ASHRAE thermal guidelines, and relevant industry best practices.
Participate in the development of new MEP design and construction concepts, produce K2 data centre design libraries, and system specifications.
Lead and manage design and innovation projects, influence K2 technical design decision-making. Efficiently handle technical problems with demonstrate creativity in solutions.
Assisting customer RFP support, developing new ideas on MEP design to meet the new AI ready data centre on performance, operation and quality requirements.
Recommend and integrate advanced solutions to improve energy efficiency, reduce carbon footprint, and enhance facility performance and availability.
Works closely with internal teams as well as collaborating with external vendors to perform and support design and development activities.
Conduct feasibility studies on new MEP technology on the market, support technical due diligence for the new supply chain and manufacture data centre products.
Perform on going technology market research on Liquid Cooling on high density Data Centres. Develop a design scheme to how power delivery can be provided in a small footprint.
Design, develop the system prototypes of data centre solution with vendors to ensure the newly developed solution meets the specifications and K2 engineering requirements.
Writing white paper, producing reports and documentation. Participating in technical meetings, seminars, and conferences.
Infrastructure Design Optimization
Evaluate and implement newly developed design and product solutions to optimize data centre power usage effectiveness (PUE) and water usage effectiveness (WUE).
Assess and improve construction methods, cooling design, rack layout, and power distribution for maximum construction, commissioning and operation efficiency.
Develop TCO strategies to improve equipment lifecycle management and reduce maintenance costs.
Management & Implementation
Lead design development and innovation, support technical discussions and provide guidance to project delivery teams during construction, commissioning, and handover stages.
Ensure proper documentation of design specifications, drawings, equipment details, and solution implementation processes.
Conduct risk assessments and ensure designs support redundancy and resilience for critical systems.
Implement vendor-agnostic procurement strategies / process with a multi-vendor design template for each MEP system.
Stakeholder & Vendor Management
Collaborate with internal teams, including Delivery, Operations, Facilities, and IT, to align the newly developed technical solutions with business needs.
Engage with suppliers and contractors to ensure solution / equipment developed fully aligns with K2 technical vision and design requirements.
Develop a geopolitical risk register to guide equipment selection and procurement strategies by customer type and region.
Compliance & Sustainability
Ensure all newly developed designs and solutions comply with local regulations, industry standards and company policies.
Integrate sustainable design practices including renewable energy solutions, heat recovery systems, and carbon footprint reduction initiatives.
Interpersonal Requirements
Strong design and problem-solving skills with the ability to stay driven and focused without external supervision, being able to identify design issue and make correct decisions on innovative technical solutions.
Excellent time management, can effectively prioritizing work tasks and managing schedule to meet deadlines, strong communication skills with experience on vendor and stakeholder engagement abilities.
Ability to thrive in a fast-paced, high-performance environment.
Job requirements
Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering, mechanical engineering, data centre engineering, or related fields.
Certifications such as CDCP (Certified Data Centre Professional), DCD (Data Centre Design), or Uptime Institute Accredited Tier Designer are highly desirable.
Minimum 5–8 years of experience in data centre design, solutions architecture, or infrastructure engineering.
Sound technical knowledge and proven experience in delivering high-density data centres, colocation facilities, or hyperscale environments.
Strong understanding and technical background in electrical power or cooling system, excellent problem-solving skills and the ability to work collaboratively with others.
Keen interest in construction industry and M&E infrastructure development
Demonstrate technical rigor and creativity, continuous learning and improvement, alignment to fast changing data centre industry needs.
Solid problem-solving skills and excellent understanding of data centre MEP system interface requirements.
Proficient in design software such as AutoCAD, Revit, or BIM (Building Information Modelling).
Ability to work autonomously with minimal supervision, including time management and prioritisation.
Ability to analyse and resolve complex technical issues at a basic principle level, collaborating across multiple disciplines of DC application.
Flexible approach to working in a small design and innovation team, requiring a hands-on approach to getting things done.
Familiarity with industry standards such as TIA-942, ISO 27001, and ASHRAE guidelines.
