Job description
- This position is for a welding engineer for marine shipyard work related to Electrical installation work including steel fabrication, welding work related to the installation of electrical equipment, cable ladder support, and steel deck or bulkhead penetration for cables.
- Read and understand project work specifications, prepare worklists with detailed scope from work specifications, clarify technical matters, select materials, prepare a material list, and order or source materials and subcontractors as required.
- Plan, execute, and monitor (Work scope, progress, schedule, manpower, material, technical matters) and collaborate with SRM/PJM, relevant trade supervisor, and foreman during job execution to ensure that all works are completed on schedule without compromising safety and quality.
- Actively observe, monitor and train subordinates.
- Read and understand work specifications, technical specifications, and drawings. Prepare a job list with detailed work scope, effective planning and scheduling of work, materials, and manpower. Led and executed work plan to the satisfaction of the owner /class and timely completion without compromising the quality of work and safety for steel fabrication and welding work relating to electrical installation to ship repair, conversion, and retrofit.
- Supervise the welding activities are being carried out as per the project procedures
- Ensure the welding machines and welding accessories are in good working condition & consumables are in good working condition.
- Ensure that all work activities comply with safety requirements, including permit-to-work system and safe work procedure, Risk assessment, and control measures.
- Allocate the job to welders based on their skill level and qualification
- When a contractor is required to perform the work, request a subcontractor with a detailed scope of work and active monitoring of the work progress to complete the work timely without compromising safety and quality.
- Guide welders on welding activities and resolve the day-to-day site issues
- Conduct training sessions for welders related to various welding machines/processes & techniques
- Ensure that the welding/gouging jobs are carried out with the required safety standards as per company HSE requirements
- If and as necessary, clash check (collision check), prepare sketches and mark up drawings for fabrication and installation for project/ owner approval and issue for fabrication work and installation.
- Select, verify and order or source required materials for work as needed for projects.
- Any additional works to clarify with the owner representative, inspect and prepare work scope and obtain approval and plan prior to starting the work.
- Monitor and update the progress of jobs and the work schedule; notify the senior engineer and the HOD of any potential issue that can delay the vessel repair schedule.
- Ensure all work completion reports have been made and signed by the owner’s rep and submitted to the commercial department on time (before vessel delivery).
- To support the supervisor/ foreman and planners in preplanning, generating schedules, and following up on all jobs in order to utilise optimum resources—manpower and equipment.
- Perform other related jobs as assigned by Snr. Engineer and HOD.
Job requirements
- Degree or Diploma above related to Electrical Engineering Discipline or Equivalent.
- 3 Years above with relevant working experience ( Prefer in Marine & Maritime industry).
- Good computer leadership and communication skills.
- Able to read and understand electrical specification, control circuit and process P & ID.
- Knowledge in marine and offshore navigation equipment and communication equipment, inclusive of class and SOLAS requirement.
- Understand the principles of low tension main and emergency switch board, inclusive of protection devices, switch gears, synchronization and load sharing.
