Job description

We are seeking an experienced Naval Architect with strong expertise in specialty cargo securing, structural analysis, and heavy-lift engineering for multipurpose vessels (MPVs). The role will focus on structural assessment, lashing design, and the use of advanced engineering software to ensure safe, compliant, and cost-efficient operations. This position is ideal for candidates with a hands-on background in project cargo, offshore transport, or heavy-lift shipping.

Responsibilities

  • Perform hull and deck structure strength assessments, including evaluation of hatch covers and above-deck stowage of heavy and project cargo.

  • Propose and design structural reinforcement and load-spreading solutions for specialty cargo securing.

  • Prepare and deliver technical documentation, including:

    • Lashing & securing calculations (using DNV Lashcon or equivalent)

    • Stowage, securing & dunnage plans

    • Heavy lifting & rigging plans

    • Structural analysis reports and drawings

  • Provide hands-on engineering support for project bids and vessel evaluation in collaboration with Business/ Chartering teams.

  • Liaise with Classification Societies, Owners, Charterers, and Shippers to resolve disputes or technical queries on ship strength, load spreading, or cargo securing.

  • Use and apply Finite Element Analysis (FEA) tools (Femap/Nastran or equivalent) for structural simulation and validation of cargo securing solutions.

  • Continuously seek opportunities to optimize designs and reduce operational costs while maintaining safety and compliance.

  • Train and mentor junior engineers by sharing knowledge on cargo securing, structural analysis, and heavy-lift engineering best practices.

  • File, update and maintain work database.

Job requirements

  • Appropriate qualification in Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or equivalent.

  • Proven experiences in project cargo, heavy-lift, or MPV operations with direct involvement in lashing and securing design.

  • Proficiency in Femap & Nastran (or similar FEA software) for structural analysis.

  • Practical experiences with DNV Lashcon (or equivalent cargo lashing calculation software).

  • Familiarity with lifting and rigging design for heavy-lift operations.

  • Strong understanding of Class rules, IMO guidelines, and international standards related to cargo securing and ship structure.

  • Excellent technical writing and reporting skills.

  • Strong problem-solving skills with the ability to balance safety, compliance, and commercial requirements.

  • Demonstrated reliability to manage and complete multiple projects within tight timeline.
